Niccolo joins the winners list

Local South Australian, Scott Matthews has a long history in the hospitality industry and he and his then wife to be, Tammie, arrived in our offices with a very exciting project – to package the first Prosecco grown and made in South Australia… and it had to be ready to drink at their wedding celebrations in 5 months time.

The small quantity and their desire to produce something truly unique and hand crafted allowed us to explore techniques that are often sidelined for larger production runs.

I lament often that there is never enough time given to us to look beyond the normal local packaging constraints but this is slowly changing as off-shore producers have significantly reduced minimum quantities and lead times. For that extra point of difference, a few months can be well worth the wait.

Made by well-known winemaker, Briony Hoare, Niccolo (from the Italian for Nicholas) is dedicated to a dear and best friend who passed far too early in life. The wine is produced with loving care to reflect the spirit, presence and grace that both Nick and this Prosecco represent.

The end result is a contemporary and strikingly elegant product that has the ‘wow’ factor. The imported bottle was screen printed and the attention to detail includes the booklet and leather tie which all add to the premium packaging.

Emma Weber, our resident sparkling design guru, was responsible for working with Scott and Tammie through the process and we were all delighted when it won a trophy for Best Sparkling Packaging at the Boutique Winemakers Awards held recently in Sydney.
